That way it is known from the start what the cost is going to be unless there are changes or additions. I will give you a written quote that specifies what I will do and any extras or things that are not included, so we all know where we stand. Where applicable I will do drawings or sketches to illustrate the finished product.
Only jobs where the work involved is very uncertain at the outset, or small jobs that takes hours, are charged by the hour. My hourly rate is £23.00 when working locally, and £28.00 in greater London or Brighton.
If you are offering a longer contract, as in a building project or similar, lets meet and discuss prices and day rates, as I might be willing to go down in rates in these circumstances. I do not mind sub-contracting for builders or businesses needing a good fitter.
Some work can be done for a set price, like fitting skirting boards and picture rails etc. Changing internal doors for three or more is £45-60.00 depending on locks and doors.
Generally, I like to see the job before I say a price.
